An Invitation to Bear Witness
Enter a painterly investigation of a selection of fragments of eye-witnessed events. They are a culmination of a long period of investigation and struggle to represent the artist’s own experience of being a reluctant witness, thrust into already ongoing circumstances beyond his control. The objects, abstracted locations and portraits of people painted from memory are an attempt to visualise the feelings of witnessing events that will always remain incomplete. As a viewer, you are now also implicated by your mere presence to bear witness upon what has been placed before you. Stripped of context and easily decipherable meaning, the exhibition draws the viewers into creating their own narratives and deciphering potential relationships between the paintings exhibited, hence creating their own sets of eye-witness accounts.
